Recapping November's Business Ideas
A quick look back at the months business ideas.
Is it just me, or did November go by in the blink of an eye? It feels like we were just handing out Halloween candies, and now I’m realizing that I’m behind my neighbors in getting the Christmas decorations up.
In any case, it’s once again time to look back at the business ideas of November and possibly rekindle some of those creative juices and get something off the ground.
Handyman Services You Can Turn Into a Full-Time Business
In November’s first issue, we looked at why handyman services are still one of the most reliable ways to build a full-time service business. In most places, you don’t need a license to get started, just some basic tools, solid work habits, and the willingness to solve everyday problems around the house.
We went over five simple service ideas that are all in demand and can be started on a small budget. From general handyman tasks like hanging shelves and swapping out fixtures, to more specific offers like TV mounting, fence repair, and safety installs for seniors — there’s real money to be made doing practical jobs that homeowners don’t want to deal with.
One of the main takeaways from that issue was this: you don’t need to be a jack of all trades to do well. In fact, picking one or two services and doing them well can help you stand out faster and start building a steady stream of paying clients. These jobs are everywhere, and the people who can show up and do them right are the ones who win.
Helping Veterans With Our Services
In the November 11th issue, we took a break from business ideas to talk about something more important. On November 11th, we remembered the people who have served in the military and the sacrifices they’ve made. Some put their lives on the line. Many put everything on hold. Saying thank you matters, but backing it up with real support matters even more.
If you run a service business, you’re in a good place to help in simple, practical ways. We shared ideas like offering home repairs or yard work to veterans in your area, helping with accessibility upgrades, or reaching out to local veteran groups to see if anyone needs a hand. A few hours of honest work can mean a lot to someone who’s done so much for others.
We also talked about supporting veteran-owned businesses through referrals or partnerships. If you're hiring, even part-time work can give someone a fresh start. And for veterans considering starting their own business, service work is a great path. It keeps you moving, helps your community, and lets you build something real.
That issue wasn’t just about business. It was about the kind of work that leaves people better off than you found them. And that’s worth remembering.
Home Offices: The Overlooked Business Opportunity
In the most recent issue of the Full Throttle Start Up newsletter, we looked at the growing number of people working from home and what that means for service business opportunities. With over 4 million people in Canada and more than 34 million in the U.S. working remotely, there’s massive demand for home office upgrades — and most of these spaces are still cluttered, uncomfortable, or poorly set up.
The issue covered three business ideas that solve those problems fast. First, there’s home office tech setup. Most people struggle with monitors, cables, and Wi-Fi. If you can set things up quickly and cleanly, there’s a real market for that. Then there’s the home office clean and organize service. It’s not deep cleaning — it’s focused, functional, and makes the space work better. Finally, we looked at Zoom-ready makeovers, helping people look more professional on camera by fixing their lighting, backgrounds, and camera angles.
Each of these ideas can be launched with basic tools, a simple offer, and a few local clients. You don’t need to build something big to get started. You just need to help people work better in the space they use every day.
